Chanel’s last quality control inspections the night before a collection was shown were famous for her unceasing demands for perfection. This picture of the designer in her final years, fixing a straw boater on a model’s head, is especially poignant since Chanel started her career as a milliner, making straw boaters such as these that brought her fame and fortune.
